Federal Judge Acknowledges ‘Abusive Workplace’ After Former Clerk Complaint
LAP’s President and Founder Aliza Shatzman, spoke with Reuters after a federal judge acknowledged that the workplace in her chambers “resulted in an abusive workplace” following a judicial misconduct complaint filed by a former law clerk. Chief Judge Albert Diaz’s order found the judge’s conduct fostered a culture where clerks feared asking questions and faced harassment and harsh treatment, but the remedies ordered, including training and workplace meetings, were criticized as inadequate. Shatzman said the episode highlights the ongoing lack of accountability for judges and the urgent need for meaningful Congressional action to protect clerks and court staff from abuse.
