Second Complaint Against US Circuit Judge Closed After Renewed Vow to Improve Workplace Culture

The disciplinary order against Judge Sarah Merriam "should be viewed in the proper context—the judiciary’s inability and unwillingness to self-police misconduct,” LAP’s President and Founder Aliza Shatzman told Law.com. Shatzman added that there were systemic issues keeping clerks from being forthright about their experiences. “We need to be honest about the foundational fact that law clerks are exempt from Title VII,” Shatzman said. “And culturally, they are not protected. The legal industry retaliates against these clerks.”
